Fifteen years ago, I had my share of regrets, but today, I find joy in pursuing my passions—acting, directing, producing for OTT platforms, and competing internationally in Table Tennis, achieving victories when many would have retired.
Contentment is the word that describes my current state, as I derive happiness from all my endeavors. In a world where many are stressed for various reasons, I feel fortunate to lead a fulfilling life.
Reflecting on my past, I experienced both abundance and scarcity. After starting a promising legal career at Khaitan and Khaitan, I was drawn to the allure of acting, a passion that had captivated me since childhood.
The Call of Creativity
It was perhaps inevitable that I would gravitate towards the uncertain yet thrilling world of creativity. My childhood experiences, such as playing characters from the Ramayana during Dussehra, fueled this passion.
From gaining recognition at 19 with a significant role in Mahabharata to representing India in Table Tennis in my 60s, I have always sought diverse experiences. My journey was not without challenges, and I never aimed for mere stardom, as life encompasses much more.
While still in college, I landed the role in 'Mahabharat,' but I was uncertain about my future path.
Falling in Love with Writing
I left my legal job at Khaitan to pursue showbiz, facing a period of uncertainty. Despite sleeping on the floor and feeling lost, I created my own opportunities. Within a year, I collaborated with renowned figures like Mahesh Bhatt and Shyam Benegal.
My passion for writing blossomed as I developed a successful show, 'Khushiyan,' which started with 26 episodes but expanded to over 200, focusing on universal themes like the father-daughter bond.
Pursuing Multiple Passions
While my work in the entertainment industry was rewarding, I yearned for more. In 2012, I shifted my focus to acting and Table Tennis, even playing alongside legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar.
I have learned that both acting and sports demand hard work, and each day presents new challenges. In sports, particularly singles, I found opportunities to prove myself, and winning brings immense satisfaction.
Redefining Success
Despite my varied experiences and recognition, I don't consider myself successful in the conventional sense. However, I cherish every moment and feel grateful for the life I lead. I believe that while it's easier to gain fame, maintaining it is a greater challenge.
I enjoy acting for its own sake rather than chasing stardom. There is only one Shah Rukh Khan, and countless others who never reach that level. I strive to find joy in every character I portray.
Life's Journey and Personal Choices
In my pursuit of dreams, I often neglected my personal life and never married. Although I received love for my work, my focus on my aspirations left little room for relationships.
I view life as a flowing river; it's essential to embrace the journey without fixating on the future. We often create our own problems when, in reality, there is nothing to worry about.
If you had asked me about regrets a decade ago, I would have had many. Today, I feel content and believe life is beautiful, with a broader perspective on success.
Authenticity in Pursuit of Dreams
Many young individuals come to Mumbai aspiring to be stars, but it's crucial to understand one's potential amidst the struggles. Being true to oneself is vital before chasing a dream career.
Since childhood, I had a passion for acting and sought a platform to express my ideas. The entertainment industry provided that outlet, allowing me to showcase my creativity through various mediums.
When in front of the camera or on stage, you quickly learn if your audience appreciates your work. While looks may help initially, sustained success relies on hard work and talent. Many star kids have not succeeded despite their advantages, proving that constant self-validation is necessary in this field.
Caution in the Industry
Unfortunately, many young talents are exploited in the industry. It's essential to remember that producers won't invest in you without a valid reason. Young women and men should be cautious, as opportunities won't come easily.
